Every month, HBA San Francisco recognizes an individual who has made especially meaningful and impactful volunteer contributions. The July 2020 Honored Volunteer is Marge Josephson, vice president of human resources and operational services at Bay City Capital, who has been a member of the HBA for 15 years. Marge has been involved in various dimensions within HBA San Francisco, such as membership and engagement and she has held several leadership positions including global committee chair for volunteers, vice president, president-elect and secretary.
A key player in promoting HBA awareness and interest, Marge spearheaded the Saturday morning orientation event, engaging in conversations with prospective HBA members and encouraging them to join HBA San Francisco. During the events, Marge would discuss the organization’s offerings, learn more about the background and interests of prospective members and identify potential volunteer opportunities for them. In today’s virtual environment, Marge has participated in many phone calls and happy hours with prospective members to continue having these conversations. In Marge’s words, “Giving [these individuals] the foot up that says ‘we care about you and your success as an HBA member’ really has a big impact. The personal touch is a special part of our chapter, as it allows for more meaningful connections and positive experiences for our members.”
As someone who has worked at small companies throughout her career, Marge attributes her involvement in the HBA to her ability to effectively collaborate with others. According to Marge, “Working with others to complete a task is an exercise in active listening, critical thinking about what ideas they are suggesting, and then offering my own perspective and rationale.” Marge’s experiences with volunteering have allowed her to understand a variety of perspectives, engage in open communication and ultimately serve as a reliable team member.
Marge Josephson was nominated for the Honored Volunteer Award by Saba Nikpour, who recognizes Marge as a true example of the HBA core value of engagement who encourages volunteers to cultivate a network through the HBA, all while displaying enthusiasm and dedication.
Marge will be hosting a “Meet the HBA: Virtual Brunch” event on Saturday, 19 September from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm PT. During this video conference brunch/happy hour, join HBA members, leaders and others committed to gender parity in an informal setting to learn about HBA happenings locally and globally. The event is free for HBA members looking to connect and non-members hoping to learn more about the HBA. Additional event information and registration instructions can be found here.
